Properties of Sound

LI - To learn about properties of sound.

A properties means a belonging to a thing for example : black house, blue shoes, orange chair, red coat, etc.

Sound comes from things like clapping, music, etc. there are 3 properties of sound for example sound gets weaker the further it travels, sound can travel around corner, sound travels in all directions.

We know this because we experimented the 3 properties of sound using a phone beeper, meter, ball

Adjectives

LI - To learn about adjective

Adjectives descibe things. There are 3 kinds of adjectives, superlative, absolute, comparative, and superlative.

Absolute adjectives describe something for example, small, short, comfy, weird, etc.

An comparative is a word adding "er" to the end of the word like, uglier, nicer, louder, etc. If the word makes no sense using "er", add "more", for example "more popular".

Superlative is a word that using "est" to the end, like smallest, shortest, meanest, ugliest, etc. If the word makes no sense add "most", for example "most popular".

This task was to inform people what, absolute, comparative, and superlative.

Crocodile's christmas jandals

LI - Summarising the main idea of a topic

During this week we were summarising the main idea of a topic, we had to read a book called Crocodile's christmas jandals, this book was made by Margaret Mahi. When we were done reading we had to find Adjectives, verbs and descriptive language, then we have to put all those words from past, presents and future.

Summarising the Main Idea
Good readers notice keywords.  Here are some clues to help you find key words:
  • Key words are directly connected to the topic
  • Key words are often repeated in the title and the text
  • A key word helps you to remember an important idea

How Kiwi

This week we were trying to summarise the main idea of a topic. First we have to read the story. Then give the definations for each word that we dont know and look them up on maori dictionary. Next we have read the story again and give information of who, what, when, how, where. After that we did a 25 word sentence using only information from who, what, where, how, when and from the definations to summerise the text.

Long, long ago, the skies were filled with birds flying above the forests.
The gods called the birds and told them that the trees were dying. They asked the birds, one by one, to come and live on the forest floor and save the trees, but all of them except Kiwi said no.
Kiwi came to live on the damp, dark forest floor. He ate the insects and saved the trees

Read the text and record key words/phrases that answer these questions:

What?
Kiwi had to go to the dark black forest because they needed to hunt insects and save the trees.
Where?
In the forest.
When?
Long long ago in Aotearoa.
Who?
The kiwi and some other birds.
Why?
The other birds said “No thanks!” except kiwi.
How?
The kiwi had to risk his wings to save the forest.
Now using the words you wrote down summarise the text in 25 words or less.

Long long ago in Aotearoa, kiwi with rainbow wings had to go to the black dark forest because they needed to save trees and hunt insects.
